Welcome to the December 2010 Automotive Update from the Skills Institute. We will update you regularly with news and training opportunities. We offer an extensive range of short courses and qualifications, held all over the State. Our staff are experienced industry professionals and offer training that can be customised to your needs. 	Vulcan Motorcycle Donation by Kawasaki Australia The Skills Institute would like to thank Kawasaki Australia for donating a Vulcan Classic touring bike, laptop diagnostic equipment and service manuals. This donation is part of a national initiative to support the training of apprentices in electronic engine management. In January 2011, Kawasaki Training Instructors will be introducing TSI staff and apprentices to the Vulcan motorbike. Contact Simon Waters on 6336 4257 if you would like to attend.
	LNG Component Donation by William Adams Ltd Thanks to William Adams Ltd, the Skills Institute now has used and new Clean Air Power components for training in LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas). This donation will allow us to expand our capability to deliver training on demand. The next LNG Training Course (Restricted Licence) will be held in early 2011. 	Outboard Data Tool Donation by Suzuki Marine Australia Marine apprentices will now perform Suzuki outboard diagnostics with the latest Data Tool thanks to Suzuki Marine Australia. The new Data Tool will be used on our DF70 Four Stroke Outboard. Thanks to Coastal Marine and Suzuki Marine Australia for their support.
	Partnership with Metro Tasmania Did you know the Skills Institute can help plan your training and save you money by sourcing Skills Tasmania funding? We recently worked with Metro Tasmania to create a Workforce Development Plan which identified their training and skills needs. The next step was to submit an application for funding through the "Existing Workers Productivity Places Program". This funding through Skills Tasmania is for up-skilling groups of six or more existing workers in Certificate IV qualifications. 	Training in Your Workplace Save on travel costs and ensure maximum productivity by having the Skills Institute train and assess your staff in their workplace. We offer the following onsite programs: Air Conditioning Licence, Forklift Licence, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Licence and short courses in LPG Decanting and Basic Auto Electrical. We have successfully run training programs for Grange Resources (at Savage River) and Rio Tinto (at Bell Bay). 	Mobile Training Centre Our impressive Mobile Training Centre is fully equipped with online computer access, a kitchenette, LCD screens, a diesel generator and air conditioning. The pantech semi-trailer comfortably caters for up to 14 people and will be used to provide training in remote regions state wide. 	Looking for a New Apprentice? The Skills Institute can recommend graduates of our Kickstart Pre-Apprenticeship program. Participants gained basic skills through this federally funded training which ran successfully in Hobart, Burnie and Launceston. Congratulations to participants that have already gained an apprenticeship. To discuss your staffing requirements call 1300 362 175 and ask for the Automotive unit in your region.
	Apprentice Training Fees in 2011 Due to CPI prices increases, the Apprenticeship training fees for 2011 will rise from $1.78 to $1.83 per nominal hour. Apprentices complete 340 hours of training per year, which makes the 2011 enrolment payment $622.20.
	Christmas Break and Staff Information The Skills Institute wishes our employer partners and apprentices a safe and happy Christmas and New Year. For any training enquiries over this period call 1300 362 175 and ask for the Automotive unit in your region. Teaching staff return from leave on Tuesday 18 January 2011. Please contact us as soon as possible if you require any new apprentice sign-ups. These must be completed prior to Wed 22 December 2010.
