Who can be an Apprentice?
Anyone of working age can be an Apprentice including your existing workers (subject to citizenship and visa conditions). Your Australian Apprenticeship Centre can provide advice on their eligibility.
How long does an Australian Apprenticeship take?
An Apprenticeship takes between one and four years to complete depending on the type of Apprenticeship and the qualification undertaken. Employees may be granted credit for their existing skills and workplace experience, potentially reducing their formal training time.
How do I find an Apprentice?
Please contact a Skills Institute Apprenticeship Co-ordinator. You could also contact an Australian Apprenticeship Centre or a Job Network Provider.
Why choose the Skills Institute as your training provider?
When visiting your Australian Apprenticeship Centre, advise them that the Skills Institute is your preferred Registered Training Organisation. The Skills Institute offers a wide range of qualifications across many industries, has experienced teaching staff and modern training facilities in southern, northern and north-western Tasmania.
What if I have a problem with my Skills Institute Apprentice?
Your local Australian Apprenticeship Centre is your first contact for most problems. They may help you or refer you to the appropriate authority. If your problem is regarding training you should contact the Skills Institute. You can also contact Skills Tasmania on 1800 655 846, for information and advice or to arrange assistance from a Training Consultant.
What is Group Training as provided by a Group Training Organisation?
Group Training Organisations (GTOs) employ Apprentices under an employment and training contract and then place them with host employers. The GTO undertakes the employer responsibilities such as ensuring the quality and continuity of employment and training. The GTO also provides support services necessary for the successful completion of Apprentice training. Partnering with a GTO improves the quality and breadth of training available to Apprentices in small and medium sized businesses.
