Prerequisites

You must be employed or have access to an organisation to conduct an on-the-job project.

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) is about ensuring safe and healthy working conditions, and preventing illness and injury in the workplace. This course provides employee safety representatives with a range of skills and knowledge that will enable them to effectively and responsibly represent their work group. This includes a working knowledge of the Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995, other relevant legislation and approved codes of practice. Participants will develop an understanding of health and safety committees and how to develop positive attitudes to OHS.

Participants will learn:

  • The principles of hazard identification.
  • To perform risk management.
  • About accident causation and prevention.
  • To investigate accidents.
  • About conflict resolution and management.
  • To participate in individual and group problem solving.
