The Skills Institute, in partnership with the Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association, is offering a self-paced program focussing on animal welfare requirements in the production of livestock. Participants will learn to implement industry practices and procedures and report problems.
The program includes:
-
Animal welfare requirements.
-
Animal production processes.
-
The Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) approach to quality assurance.
-
Enterprise policies, guidelines and standard operating procedures.
Producers and their employees can undertake assessment with little disruption to farm activities. Completion of this program can also be used as evidence for quality assurance programs.
"Animal welfare is becoming an increasingly scrutinised area. There is ongoing debate around competency and the need to show capability at correct animal welfare practices. The course developed by TSI and TFGA will offer farmers the opportunity to be assessed as competent in a manner that does not encroach on their valuable time." - Jan Davis, TFGA President
This course is subsidised by Skills Tasmania through the Workplace Skills Program.
