The Australian Refrigeration Association has announced a new program to deliver much-needed training for HVAC&R contractors in the use of natural refrigerants.

Natural refrigerant training in safety awareness and servicing of stationary refrigeration and air conditioning systems is now available for existing workers across the country.

Refrigeration and air conditioning equipment using natural refrigerants is increasingly being imported, manufactured and installed in Australia. These natural refrigerants are flammable and toxic or operate at extreme pressures, but are being used in place of synthetic refrigerants which have an Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP), a high Global Warming Potential (GWP) and are now 3 to 5 times more expensive due to the Carbon Equivalent Levy.

Existing refrigeration and air conditioning workers require up-skilling to enable them to safely handle Hydrocarbons, Carbon Dioxide and Ammonia refrigerants during the installation, commissioning, service and repair of stationary refrigeration and air conditioning systems.

This course is partially funded by the ARA and reduces the cost for eligible participants to $560.  To apply for funding you must register with the ARA before commencement -  to register click here.

Note: this course only covers Hydrocarbon refrigerants
