Outcome

Statement of Attendance, or if assessment completed a Statement of Attainment in ‘Facilitate support responsive to the nature of dementia’ (CHCAC416A).

Prerequisites

Participants will need to be currently employed in the aged care sector and have a nominated supervisor who can complete a workplace observation as part of the assessment.

Location

At the Alanvale training facility and on the North-west coast if there is sufficient interest.

Cost

There is no cost to attend this training as it is fully funded by the Department of Health & Ageing.

In collaboration with Alzheimer’s Tasmania, the Skills Institute is providing dementia specific training for people currently employed within the aged care sector in Tasmania.  This training will be provided state-wide including remote areas during early 2013.

This course is designed to enhance existing skills and knowledge and is most suited to case managers, coordinators or experienced dementia unit workers, who have already attained the unit 'Provide Support to people living with dementia' CHCAC319A.

Participants will learn:

  • The knowledge and skills required to provide support to clients with dementia
  • Legislation to include mandatory reporting of suspected abuse
  • To assist in a variety of settings to include family homes, community day settings and residential care
  • To develop and implement support plans
  • On successful completion the units to receive credit toward Certificate IV in Aged Care (CHC40108)
